The craziest race you’ve ever seen. A race with sabots, the typical wooden shoes of the Val d'Ayas.
Saturday 23 July from 10:00 for children and from 11:00 for adults, in Periasc, starting from the cross-country skiing center of Ayas, will take place the most fun race of the summer. The sabot race is an integral part of the tradition of Ayas and from this year more than ever it is an appointment not to be missed.
- Registration with race package with the t-shirt Sabot Race and the key ring sabot to each participant
- Beer and polenta tanning at the base of departure and arrival
- The important thing to have or borrow a couple of sabots to compete

The use of sabots is a fashion imported from the Nordic world, a success that saw the birth of a large number of professionals: according to some testimonies, at the end of the 1800s the sabotiers of Ayas were about 400 and, If first it was a prerogative of the Aosta Valley alone, in a short time, already at the end of the seventeenth century, reached and conquered Piedmont becoming the pivot of economic and social life.History of the race with sabot:it is handed down that to evaluate which was the best sabotier of the Val d'Ayas every year in late July was made a race between the different sabotiers that in this way would test the performance of the hooves from their own products.That thing soon became a party of the country. Today the tradition is still alive with the monterosa Sabot Race, the goliardic race with sabots at the feet.
The race consists of a path in the old village of Periasc ad Ayas, on the way there are two stage points where you need to stop and drink a beer before you can continue. In addition to knowing how to run with beer, the real sabotiers have to overcome 2 more obstacles:
- the water slide
- the shot between hay and sawdust.
Everyone who reaches the finish line will be rewarded.
